Privacy policy
CentsPerServing prices recipes against real grocery store data. We built it to need as little of your data as possible: no ads, no third-party analytics services, no tracking cookies, and we never sell or rent personal information to anyone. We measure site usage with a self-hosted, cookieless analytics tool (Plausible) running on our own servers - details below.
What we collect, and why
- Recipes you price. When you submit a recipe URL or paste recipe text, we fetch and parse it to build your priced basket. Priced baskets and weekly plans get a shareable link (like /b/... or /week/...) - anyone who has that link can view that basket. Baskets contain ingredient and price data, not personal information.
- Email address, only if you join the waitlist or create an account. Accounts use magic-link sign-in: we store your email and a hashed, single-use sign-in token that expires after 30 minutes. Signing in sets a session cookie (
cps_sess) that lasts up to 90 days. - Kroger connection. If you connect your Kroger account to use one-tap cart, Kroger gives us an access token scoped only to adding items to your cart. Tokens are stored on our servers, never in your browser - your browser holds only an opaque cookie (
cps_ks). We never see your Kroger password, and we only add items to your cart when you click the button. - Your saved weeks and pantry, if you have an account: we store your generated weekly plans and rolling pantry so next week's plan can subtract what you already bought.
- IP address, briefly, for rate limiting (free pricing is limited per day) and basic abuse prevention.
- Anonymous usage statistics. Page views, referrer, browser and device type, and country, collected without cookies by our self-hosted Plausible instance. Visits are counted using a hash that resets daily; no raw IP addresses or personal profiles are stored, and the data never leaves our servers.
What stays on your device
Your recent baskets, recent weeks, and pantry checklist are kept in your browser's local storage so the site works without an account. That data never leaves your device unless you sign in (which syncs weeks to your account) or share a link.
Service providers
- Resend delivers our emails (sign-in links, weekly plan emails if you opt in).
- Kroger's API provides product and price data and, if connected, cart access.
- Stripe will process payments if you subscribe to a paid plan. Card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store card numbers.
Everything else runs on our own servers.
Emails
We send sign-in links you request, and a weekly plan email only if you turn it on. Every preference can be switched off from your account page. We do not send marketing blasts.
Data deletion
Email hello@centsperserving.com from your account address and we will delete your account, saved weeks, pantry, Kroger tokens, and waitlist entry. Clearing your browser's site data removes everything stored on your device.
