How it works
Paste a recipe URL, or paste the ingredient list itself when a recipe site blocks automated fetching - both paths are equal, and the paste tab is not an error state. We read the ingredient lines and work out what you would actually have to buy, leaving out pantry staples like salt, water and cooking oil that you are not going to the store for. Every remaining ingredient is matched to a specific product at the store nearest your ZIP code, with that product's real package size and shelf price. Then we do the arithmetic a recipe never does: how many packages the amounts require, what that costs at the register, and what it works out to per serving.
What makes this different
Most recipe cost tools estimate. They multiply an ingredient by a national average price per pound and hand you a number no store will ever charge you. This prices against real products on a real shelf at a store you picked.
Three things follow from that. Uncertain matches are flagged rather than silently substituted, so you can see where our judgment might differ from yours. Pantry staples are excluded from the total instead of padding it. And package remainder is counted honestly: a recipe needing six ounces of bacon buys a sixteen-ounce package, and the ten ounces left are shown as what they are - food you paid for that carries into your next meal, not money burned. In-store pickup pricing is also never blended with delivery pricing, because delivery platforms mark items up and conflating the two would make the number a lie.

Which stores can it price against?
Kroger stores, using Kroger's own product catalog and the shelf prices at the specific location nearest the ZIP code you enter. Prices are per store, not national averages - the same recipe lands at different totals at two Kroger locations in one metro, and we show you the store the basket was priced at.
How accurate are the prices?
About 93% of ingredient matches are ones a shopper accepts as-is when we hand-grade them. Every match carries a confidence score, and anything we are unsure about is flagged CHECK THIS on the basket rather than quietly swapped for something else.
What happens when an ingredient cannot be matched?
It is listed separately as not stocked or not found, and it is left out of the total rather than guessed at. A basket that silently invents a price for an ingredient your store does not carry is worse than one that admits the gap.
Is it free?
Yes. Pricing recipes needs no account and no card. There is a daily cap on how many new recipes one visitor can price, because every recipe costs us real grocery-API calls.
